We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.  As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's Table as God has welcomed us.

Wondering what the Disciples of Christ are about?

Thinking of joining us for worship? Great!

Let us tell you a little bit about us, our worship services and our history.

First Christian Church is inclusive of all people because we believe that everyone belongs in the family of God. We say "all means ALL" around here and we believe it. Everyone is beloved and everyone is welcomed -- all races, gender identities, sexual orientations, socio-economic statuses, and more. We are highly involved in our community through participation in a number of local feeding programs, help agencies, and not-for-profit organizations. Our various fellowship and study groups provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn, grow, and reach out to others. Our youth and young adult programs attract folks from other churches and faiths and our outreach programs help many others in our community. Locally, we might be best known for our outstanding music program, including our Ecumenical Community Church Choir Cantatas at Easter and Christmas.

Sunday Worship

Worship at Selma First Christian Church begins at 10:30 am. When you first come in you will notice folks might be wearing anything from office attire to jean shorts and t-shirts. Come as you are. Feel free to sit wherever you like. Our music is a blend of traditional hymns and praise music. Everyone is invited to sing along. Paper bulletins with the order of worship will be available at the entrance when you arrive. We also have a screen in the front of the sanctuary to guide you through worship as well. If you have questions during the service, just tap the person closest to you and ask. When it comes time for communion, you are welcome to participate. We believe that everyone is invited to share in the Lord’s Supper. All means all.

History

Selma First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded in 1885 by A. A. Rowell and seventeen other charter members. The first church building was dedicated on March 19, 1892, and served as our place of worship for 23 years. Our current church building was dedicated on March 4, 1917, and the pipe organ was installed in 1923. The first things most people notice are the beautiful stained glass windows and the golden pipes dominating the front of the sanctuary.
